James Forrest is one of only a handful of players who can say they spent their whole footballing career at Celtic in the history of the club.
In 514 appearances for Celtic, Forrest has scored 109 goals and created 108 assists on his way to collecting 12 league titles, seven Scottish Cups and five League Cups.
This season the Celtic winger could become the club’s most decorated player if he wins another two trophies in Paradise this season.
Forrest signed a new deal at Celtic this season which will take him up to his 34th birthday and it looks like the Hoops winger will finish his career at the Bhoys.
However, that didn’t stop Scott Brown from phoning the Celtic legend and asking him about going to Ayr United and Forrest shares what Broony told him about a potential move.
Scott Brown’s cheeky phone call to Celtic’s James Forrest
Bearing in mind that Forrest was free to speak to clubs around this time, who can blame Brown for picking up the phone with his former Celtic teammate?
Forrest told the Scottish Daily Mail [print edition page 70], “Scott actually phoned me. I think he asked me last January, February, if I’d go down.
“What was my answer? Not yet… ‘I don’t even think he said I would get a game. He said I could compete for a place.”
Although the crux of the conversation does seem to be a wee bit tongue-in-cheek, how weird would it be to see Forrest pull on a jersey other than the green and white Hoops?
James Forrest’s five most important title wins at Celtic
You could argue that every title win at Celtic is important and you would be 100% correct but there are wins that stick out in the mind and in the case of Forrest, he has been at the core of one of the most successful periods in Celtic’s history.

Forrest played in every season of Celtic’s nine-in-a-row run so with that in mind, here are five of his most important league title wins.
- 2011/12 – The first title of the second nine-in-a-row era.
- 2016/17 – The Quadruple Treble era starts and the Invincibles season was also completed.
- 2019/20 – The Quadruple Treble is completed and history is made.
- 2021/22 – Celtic rip the title back from Rangers as the Ange Postecoglou era begins.
- 2023/24 – Celtic retain the title in Brendan Rodgers’ return to the club and put Philippe Clement’s Rangers in their place.
With another league title looking like it could be on its way to Celtic and Forrest this season, it looks like this next win could be the biggest in the Hoops winger’s career.
