Celtic have got Nicolas Kuhn through the doors after he was announced as the club’s first January signing on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old adds to the strong and bulked-up wide positions Brendan Rodgers can pick from at Celtic, with the manager expressing his thoughts on the deal.

It has been suggested that the Scottish Premiership champions are paying Rapid Vienna ‘£3 million’ for the services of their ‘dynamic’ player.

The club itself spoke very highly of Nicolas Kuhn upon departure, as they posted on their club website, describing him as a ‘valuable’ player.

Rapid’s Managing Director Markus Katzer added how he hopes their departed player can ‘demonstrate his undoubtedly huge potential even better in Scotland than here’.

After previously being at Ajax and Bayern Munich, Nicolas Kuhn played 51 matches in total for the Austrian side scoring seven goals and supplying ten assists.

And now he will be hoping to win some much-needed trophies, with Markus Katzer adding that the player ‘really wanted to take this next step in his career’.

From Rapid Vienna to Celtic

“With Nicolas Kühn we are leaving a valuable player who I personally and on behalf of our club would like to wish only the best for the future,” said Katzer.

“I hope he can demonstrate his undoubtedly huge potential even better in Scotland than here.

“Nic really wanted to take this next step in his career. Since the conditions were ultimately right for us, we complied with his request for a change.”

The squad are now getting back together after the winter break and it’s a Scottish Cup tie against Buckie Thistle straight up.

This will be Kuhn’s chance to make an early impression, although, fans won’t get to see his true value until a few more outings.

With Daizen Maeda away on national duty, the likes of James Forrest and Mikey Johnston simply not good enough to start.

If Kuhn can impress pretty much straight away, then it won’t be too long before he is named in the starting XI.
