What we spotted from Celtic training before Dundee clash as key star nowhere to be seen

Celtic are in action this evening as they take on Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.

The Hoops battered Ross County 4-1 in their most recent outing to gain a 15-point advantage at the top of the division.

Complacency should not be an issue for the Hoops – as Callum McGregor alluded to last weekend – and the runaway leaders are ready to get back to business at Dens Park.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has outlined Celtic’s transfer plans this January window but the general aspiration for this month will be to simply come out of it with maximum points.

And ahead of Dundee welcoming champions-elect Celtic, we pored over the footage from the club’s TV channel who covered training at Lennoxtown and picked out some interesting takeaways.

Brendan Rodgers back on the grass

Brendan Rodgers revealed he’d taken a step back from coaching recently following the Premier Sports Cup Final.

The manager explained how he now allows his staff to have more of a hand in the drills as they know what he is after.

This week, though, the Irishman was back on the Celtic training pitch handing out advice with the likes of Auston Trusty benefiting from the gaffer.

Kenny stakes his claim

Johnny Kenny made his debut for Celtic on Saturday away to Ross County and he looked dangerous with a clear ability to get into the right areas in the box.

He missed a half decent opportunity due to the dodgy pitch but he’ll surely get more chances to score if he’s given game time.

The likelihood is it will be Kyogo and Adam Idah starting at Dens after Rodgers recently felt the pairing worked well in Dingwall.

But Kenny certainly hasn’t done himself any harm in training.

Nicolas Kuhn returns

Kuhn was missing from the Ross County fixture last weekend but he has made a quick comeback for tonight.

The German pulled out of Dundee United before kick-off and was replaced by Yang late on but Rodgers revealed he hoped to have Kuhn back sharp.

Now he has trained again with his teammates which will come as a source of delight for supporters.

No Daizen Maeda

Another player who missed the Ross County game is Maeda but there was less optimism about him playing tonight than Kuhn.

Rodgers offered an injury update on the Japanese attacker and his pal and suggested it will be touch and go before the action.

He was not spotted in training and that could point to no involvement at Dens.
