When the summer transfer window opens for Celtic; what to expect

Next week could be a hectic one for Celtic with the search for a new manager and the start of the transfer window.

The summer window will open on Wednesday 14 June, and will last over 11 weeks before closing on Friday 1 September. (Sky Sports)

However, the first few weeks of the window will only allow us to sign players from down south, with the international window not opening until Saturday 1 July.

Celtic were quick off the mark last summer, signing Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur on the first day of the window.

The signings of Ben Siegrist, Alexandro Bernabei and Jota soon followed as we geared up for the new campaign.

The start of this year’s window will be pretty different in that we don’t currently have a manager in place. That makes new signings unlikely, although not impossible.

It was likely to be a relatively busy summer of incomings and outgoings at Celtic Park and that won’t have changed with news of Postecoglou’s departure.

The new manager coming in will have his own say and that will differ from the Australian in many ways.

Players previously struggling for game-time could soon find themselves in the new manager’s plans. David Turnbull, Stephen Welsh and James Forrest are three potential examples of that.

Put simply, you can expect Celtic to follow a similar path to recent seasons. Don’t rule out any more signings from Asia just because Postecoglou is no longer there.

We are likely to lose two or three first-team players but the January signings of Alistair Johnston and Hyeongyu Oh show that change isn’t always a bad thing.

Head of recruitment Mark Lawwell will be in charge of transfer business as this stage, and is certain to work with a new manager too.

We’ll keep you updated every step of the way, on both the managerial and player front.
