Celtic have officially confirmed the signing of American internationalist and Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a four-year deal.

The 23-year-old spent last campaign on loan with Ange Postecoglou’s side after signing on transfer deadline day and quickly became a fan’s favourite at Parkhead due to his performances in the backline.

Alongside fellow summer signing Carl Starfelt, the centre-back created a solid partnership which led to the Hoops conceding the fewest goals in the league last campaign.

The original loan agreement with Spurs included an option to buy, and the Celtic support quickly called for Carter-Vickers to be signed on a permanent basis.

The Hoops faced competition for the American, with Premier League sides including Leicester City and Wolves watching closely due to his impressive performances.

However, Postecoglou and the Celtic fans were handed a huge boost this evening when it was announced that Carter-Vickers had signed a four-year deal that will see him remain with the club until 2026.

The defender spoke to the Celtic website, expressing his delight at getting the deal over the line and explained why he had signed a long-term deal in Glasgow.

He said [Celtic FC]: “I am so pleased to complete my move to Celtic, and I really could not be happier.

“I have loved every minute of my time at Celtic so far, and I really wanted to be part of the club’s future.

“We have a fantastic group of players at the club, we have a really good spirit and atmosphere among us, and we all worked so hard together to deliver the league and League Cup success last season.”

He added: “I wanted to make sure I was part of this group going forward and working under a great manager, and now we all want to achieve more.

“We have so much to look forward to, we will aim to be strong again domestically, and of course, we look ahead with real excitement to the Champions League.

“I have received such a great welcome from everyone at the club from day one and also from our supporters. When you are fortunate enough to be inside Celtic, you can see it really is one of the world’s great football clubs.

“I am delighted to be given this opportunity at a club of this stature, and I will be doing all I can to play my part in bringing more and more success to our fans.”

A brilliant start to the window for Postecoglou and Celtic.

Ange Postecoglou and Celtic have kicked off the summer transfer window in brilliant style by signing Carter-Vickers on a long-term deal.

The former Tottenham man was absolutely crucial to the success of last season and will now be able to settle at the club after a series of loan deals during the early parts of his career.

After last season’s success, Carter-Vickers will also have Champions League football to look forward to at Celtic Park.

The Celtic fans will be buzzing at signing the defender so early in the window instead of dragging the deal on until later in the summer.

Now, Carter-Vickers can focus on finishing off international duty with the USA before returning for his first full pre-season under Postecoglou this summer.

Not a bad way to start the window!
