Celtic’s transfer business has come under some serious scrutiny over the last three summers.
When Brendan Rodgers first arrived, only one player, Luis Palma, out of the ten signings Celtic made in 2023 made any impact on the Hoops’ first-team.
The following summer saw a bit of improvement as Celtic splashed £11m on Arne Engels, £6m on Auston Trusty and £8.5m on Adam Idah as all three made an impact on a double-winning season and the Champions League.
And as Celtic fan anger boiled over on this summer’s transfer window, a report has been released that shows the Hoops’ squad value ranks compared to Rangers’ as the top 100 most valuable teams is published by the CIES Football Observatory.

Celtic rank 97th in world’s most valuable squads, Rangers are nowhere to be seen
CIES have ranked Celtic’s squad value 97th in the global ranking of the world’s top football clubs.

Rangers didn’t even make the list despite the Ibrox club investing heavily in their squad this summer as they dither in the bottom half of the Scottish Premiership table.
The world’s most valuable squad compared to Celtic
Topping the list was English Premier League side Chelsea as CIES valued their squad at an incredible €1.807b [£1.572b].
