You’d be forgiven if you can’t remember Ross Doohan during his first spell at Celtic.
Doohan spent his youth career at the club before embarking on a seven year journey out on loan at several different clubs. He never got the chance to make his Celtic first-team debut.
Now, after three years away, he is back on the books at Parkhead as the club’s third choice goalkeeper behind Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo.
Here is absolutely everything you need to know about Celtic’s Ross Doohan as we answer all of your frequently asked questions.

What age is Ross Doohan?
Ross Doohan was born on March 29, 1998 in Clydebank, Scotland.
He started his youth career with the Hoops before going on seven loan spells with six different clubs. He was successful on loan to Tranmere Rovers, so they decided to sign him permanently in 2022.
As of June 2025, Doohan is 27 years old.
What is Doohan’s height?
Doohan stands 1.86 metres / 6 feet 1 inch tall.
Ross Doohan’s transfer back to Celtic
After spending half a season as Tranmere’s first choice goalkeeper, Doohan moved to Forest Green Rovers in January 2023.
He played 19 league games before Aberdeen decided to bring him to Pittodrie as back-up to Kelle Roos and latterly Dimitar Mitov.
Doohan’s game time was limited at the Dons, despite playing for a good stretch of the 2024/25 season due to Mitov’s injury.
He left Aberdeen at the end of his contract in June 2025, and that’s when reports began to surface linking him with a switch back to Celtic.
Celtic released third choice goalkeeper Scott Bain, who is now signed with Falkirk. That fuelled their decision to sign Doohan on a free transfer.
What is Doohan’s Celtic contract & salary?
Doohan signed a three-year contract at Celtic that will expire in June 2028. At the moment, it is unknown how much Doohan earns per week.
According to Salary Sport, Doohan was on a weekly wage of £2,700 with Aberdeen. Of course, he will be on a greater salary with the Bhoys.

Doohan on his return to Celtic
Speaking to the press after re-joining the Bhoys, Doohan explained it was a very easy decision to put pen to paper on a contract at Celtic Park.
He said: “The phone call with my agent lasted two minutes I’d say, just general chat for a minute. Then he just asked the question, would I be interested in coming back?
“I think I answered yeah before he even finished the question. So that’s how it really came about and as soon as I heard that I was just eager to get it done as soon as possible.
“I feel like I grew up here basically. I had been here since I was 12, 13 up until I left a few years ago. I grew up here, moved school for the club, and went full time at the club. I’ve really spent most of my life at the club, so I’ve got a major attachment here.
“Coming back was always the dream, to come back here and play and be part of the club again. I knew at the time that when I left, it was probably the right thing to do to go out and get some game time, get more experience and even mature as an individual.
“I feel I’ve matured a lot, both on and off the pitch. I’ve got a lot more experience, and I feel my all-around game has gotten better, so I’m just looking forward to getting in and working and showing everyone that.”
