Former Celtic star and BBC pundit Chris Sutton has declared that the Bhoys are a ‘much bigger’ side than elite English Premier League outfit Manchester City, debating on Radio 5 Live tonight (18:29).

The 606 show invited callers on to debate Sutton regarding a number of issues in Scottish and English football.

One of the topics put forward by Robbie Savage was who was the bigger club out of Celtic and Manchester City.

Up against an English supporter, Sutton left no-one in any doubt what he thinks, stating: “Come on, who’s got the star on the jersey? Celtic are much bigger, of course, we’ve had this argument with Celtic and Leicester.

“It’s true, get your head around it, they are a bigger club.

“Man City might have the money, Celtic have the history, Celtic have the European Cup.”

Obviously, you are not going to find me disagreeing with this. I doubt many fans would!

Man City may have a higher profile right now, the star manager and the star players. But Celtic are simply bigger on every level for me.

The Etihad outfit famously couldn’t get the better of Celtic in two matches during the Champions League group stages in 2016.

It’s great to hear a pundit represent the Hoops on a national outlet like this.

I’m pretty sure Sutton’s comments won’t have gone down too well with many Premier League supporters.

In other news, BBC Sportsound have noted their surprise that Celtic didn’t make a move for Lyndon Dykes during the summer transfer window.
