The international break sees many of Celtic’s players head overseas to represent their countries this week as the fans keep a close eye on their heroes in the hope they return to Paradise unscathed.
In seasons past the Celtic supporters have first-hand experience of seeing some of their best players return from international duty with long-term injuries and after last season’s injury woes, they will not want to have a reoccurrence of that again.
However, one player the Celtic fans won’t need to worry about is record summer-signing, Arne Engels.
The 21-year-old midfielder was called up by Belgium and made his debut this week in the 3-1 win over Israel.
And despite impressing fellow countryman, Kevin de Bruyne, Engels is returning back to Celtic early ahead of the France fixture tomorrow night.
Engels’ suspension ends senior Belgium journey
Engels has a number of caps for his country at junior level. In fact, from U15 level up to U21, the Celtic midfielder has amassed 31 appearances.
But it seems that the yellow cards he picked up in U21 fixtures against Malta and Spain have contributed to Engels’ senior Belgium career being temporarily halted for the moment.
The post read, “Arne Engels is suspended for Monday’s game and left the squad this afternoon. See you soon, Arne!”

In a follow-up tweet, there was an explanation of the reason why, “Arne still has a suspension because of 3 yellow cards from the U21s qualifying campaign.”
Engels’ Celtic potential after Belgium debut
As 67 Hail Hail discussed earlier this week, it seems that Engels stepped into the Belgium spotlight and looked relatively unphased.
Mixing it with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Yuri Tielemans can only bode well for the young midfielder and Celtic will benefit from that.
Young Engels will be on a high and knowing that if he continues to perform for Celtic will see him gain more caps.
Which can only be a good thing for Brendan Rodgers who has the Champions League looming later this month and will need all his players firing to compete with Europe’s elite.
