Kasper Schmeichel has had a fine first season at Celtic.

The Denmark goalkeeper took over the Celtic gloves from Hoops hero Joe Hart after the former England international retired from football at the end of last season.

Schmeichel has helped Celtic to a league and cup double and put in some sterling performances for Celtic against the likes of Atalanta to help Brendan Rodgers progress from the Champions League group phase.

And it seems Schmeichel’s performances are set to be rewarded with a summer link-up with Brighton star and Celtic hero Matt O’Riley.

Denmark have two home international fixtures this summer against Northern Ireland and Lithuania and it appears that Schmeichel and O’Riley are set to play a part in those.

The national association has called up both Celtic men to their international squad after an announcement on social media.

Interestingly, Celtic target Mathias Kvistgaarden has also received a call and the trio will all link up in a matter of weeks.

With O’Riley and Kvistgaarden’s futures at their respective clubs apparently uncertain, both could have the opportunity to showcase their talents to any prospective suitors.

Kasper Schmeichel’s first season at Celtic stats

Schmeichel has had an excellent first season at Celtic. Prior to his injury, the big Dane was the first name on Brendan Rodgers’ starting lineup.
