Celtic are playing second fiddle to Rangers as far as the news agenda is concerned.
First, it was the announcement that the US consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises had taken majority control of Rangers.
And then it was the confirmation that Russell Martin had been appointed the new Rangers head coach on a three-year contract.
The Hoops and their fans have naturally been watching on with interest, as their arch-rivals try and propel themselves back into silverware contention.
Martin used to play for Peterborough United and thus the club’s chairman and Celtic fan Darragh MacAnthony knows the new Gers boss well.
And MacAnthony, despite enjoying what the Bhoys have delivered across the last decade or so, thinks his team are facing a challenge in the shape of a new-look Rangers.

Darragh MacAnthony warns ‘trouble’ for Celtic beckons
MacAnthony was speaking live on talkSPORT and initially talked up the abilities of Martin as a manager, before warning Celtic face ‘trouble’ as a result of the two major shake-ups at Rangers.
The Posh chairman said: “Love Russ. Another Posh gem that has gone on to do well. I was surprised he didn’t wait for the Leicester job. But Rangers, one of the biggest jobs in football, I get it.
“But the problem there is with Celtic’s dominance and whatever else, you could be on a hiding to nothing if you don’t deliver. That would be my only worry. The demands.
“Even though Rangers are now under new ownership and have some brilliant people going in there. Massive. Some serious people.
“I’m a Celtic fan but at the end of the day, this is trouble for Celtic. With the money that is going to go in there at Rangers and now got this manager. This is going to be interesting.
“I think this could get Brendan on his toes. It might be what Celtic need. I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
“I am a big Russ fan. And by the way Matty Gill and the people behind him and work with him. He’s got a great set up around him. He believes in himself, there is nothing wrong with that.”
Celtic are in safe hands under Brendan Rodgers
It’s simple. Whatever happens at Rangers over the next year, Celtic are in safe hands with Rodgers at the helm.
The Northern Irishman is here until at least the summer of 2026, with no indication on whether he will sign a new contract.
But recent history tells us that Rangers managers don’t last too long in the post and it could be that Martin isn’t even in Glasgow by the time Rodgers’ contract expires.
Rodgers has a track record of winning trophies and it would be a monumental shock if Rangers under Martin were to collect more winners’ medals next season than Celtic.
MacAnthony is a Celtic fan but it’s unlikely the majority of the Hoops fanbase are as concerned as he sounds at the moment.
