Celtic had a number of players out on loan last season and whilst many of them had successful seasons, there are others that did struggle to make a name for themselves.
One that did impress was Liam Scales. The Celtic defender spent a full season on loan at Aberdeen. After a shaky start to his loan move, he did turn out to become one of the best players at the club as they went from possible relegation candidates to finishing third in the league and qualifying for Europe.
And writing for The Press and Journal, Aberdeen legend, Willie Miller, has named Scales as one that his old club should look to sign to help Barry Robson fill the obvious gaps in his back line.

Miller said that Aberdeen have an issue at left back and centre back and that due to Scales’ ability to play both positions, Robson would be given options by the capture of the Irishman.
There was talk earlier in the season that Aberdeen could look to make Scales temporary move to Pittodrie a permanent one but since his loan move expired, all has gone quiet on that front.
The Dons previously declared their intentions to sign Scales on a permanent basis but that was when Jim Goodwin was the manager.

Now that Brendan Rodgers has taken over, the landscape may have changed. However, it does look like the Celtic manager is looking to give all fringe players a chance to shine so it may be likely a decision on his future won’t be made until after the Celtic boss has has the chance to run the rule over him.
In my opinion, it is likely that Scales will be moved on. The amount of competition at both centre-back and left-back that he would have to overcome to get minutes on the park is, for me, too insurmountable to overcome.
Aberdeen have shown that he is a good fit for the club and it may be best for Scales, and Celtic, that he is allowed to move on.
