Forgotten Celtic midfielder, Yosuke Ideguchi, has been given some recognition in Japan from his on-loan club, Avispa Fukuoka’s, fans.

The Japanese midfielder has been at the club since February of this year after his loan move from Celtic as he tried to kick-start his career. He didn’t get off to the best of starts in Japan after he broke his ankle in the early days of his loan move.

But now he is back and helping his club climb the J League table. After a winless run of seven games which included four straight defeats, Ideguchi’s team have now won five games in a row and sit comfortably in seventh place in the table.

Clearly, Ideguchi is popular amongst the fans after they voted him onto their God 7 list in their annual General Election. What is the God 7 list vote I hear you ask?

Japanese publication Nishispo describes the vote as “The “Avispa Fukuoka General Election” is a project in which supporters vote for the seven “God 7″ players who will appear on posters for the second half of the season.” [translated by Deep L]

In fact, Avispa Fukuoka’s official website says the players voted onto the list will also feature on the club’s official God 7 merchandise.

In short, it’s a popularity contest in which fans of the club get to vote for their favourite players which they will then in turn promote Avispa Fukuoka’s remaining fixtures for the season.

Votes take place over a variety of different social media platforms including Instagram, Twitter and TikTok and even within the stadium on matchday itself.

Ideguchi came sixth on the list but considering how his career started at the J League club, it is clear that he is one a popular figure in the team amongst the fans.

Ideguchi has made 15 appearances for Avispa this season and hasn’t missed a single minute of first-team action since June. [Transfermarkt]

He is also set to appear in the quarter-finals of the Emperor’s Cup on the 30th of August as he looks to help Avispa to their first trophy since 1995. He is due to return to Celtic on December 31st.
