‘You can see’ – James Forrest admits new summer signing has ‘a great future’ at Celtic

Celtic’s recruitment has come in for some serious criticism, not just this summer, but in previous years too.

In his first summer, Brendan Rodgers recruited a number of players at Celtic like Gustaf Lagerbielke, Maik Nawrocki and Odin Thiago Holm who were deemed simply not good enough when they arrived at Parkhead.

This summer, the Celtic manager has shipped almost all of them out the door as well as trying to get new players to strengthen the first-team squad.

And it seems that James Forrest has been left blown away by one of Rodgers’ new signings after watching him in training this summer.

James Forrest tips Benjamin Nygren to have a brilliant career at Celtic

Benjamin Nygren is already impressing Celtic fans this season with impressive displays against St Mirren and Aberdeen.

But for Forrest, the new Celtic signing’s performances are not a surprise.

Forrest told Sky Sports, “I think right away in the pre-season, he was obviously here early, and all the lads helped him settle in.

“And you can tell in the way he’s trained and played over pre-season has been really good, and you can see that the start of the season he’s had, and I’m sure he’s got a great future here at the club.”

James Forrest warns rivals ‘that’s what Celtic is all about’

After being asked if Celtic are getting into their stride after the Aberdeen win, Forrest warned the Parkhead club’s rivals.

Forrest continued, “It’s always like that. I think the pre-season, it’s about everyone getting 45 minutes and 60 minutes.

“And now, I think once the games come thick and fast, I think that’s what Celtic’s all about.

“We play midweek games. Every three days you’ve got games and I think we’ve got the squad to handle that.”

Nygren looks like a player who is going to hold down his place at Celtic with ease. It’s up to Arne Engels, Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan to step up now.

With the competition in the heart of Celtic’s midfield fierce, that will only benefit the team overall this season.
