It’s coming to that part of the season where Celtic must start preparing for what lies ahead.

Although Brendan Rodgers still has a title and a Scottish Cup to win to complete the treble, there is no doubt the Celtic manager will also have one eye on preparing for the challenges of next season.

With a Champions League qualifier at the beginning of next season, it is crucial Rodgers identifies targets and gets players in early and that is where the Celtic board come in.

However, there is personel at the club that Celtic must also look to retain and the Parkhead board have been told that there is one man they simply cannot lose.

Celtic board told not to be ‘silly’ and keep Brendan Rodgers at the club

Stiliyan Petrov was previewing this weekend’s Scottish Cup tie between Celtic and St Johnstone when he talked up Rodgers and told the Parkhead board that they must do what they can to keep him at the club.

Petrov told STV, “He’s done a great job.

“I think it will be silly from the board not to continue with Brendan. So far, he hasn’t given any reasons for the board or the fans to think anything else.

“If the team finishes with a treble this year and a good European campaign, you have to look at that, and I’m sure that the board is looking into it because he’s Celtic through and through and he’s a great manager.

“He knows the club inside out, he knows the players as well now, and he’s got the opportunity to add his own players that he feels can help the team develop.”

Celtic’s record-breaking Scottish Cup success

Celtic’s record in the Scottish Cup is long and illustrious, full of fantastic and romantic memories for the fans.

Record winners of the competition, the Hoops have won the competition a record 43 times with last win at Hampden when Celtic beat Rangers in last season’s showpiece occassion.

With just two games left in the competition, Celtic will need to get past St Johnstone on Sunday and then beat the winners of the Hearts vs Aberdeen semi-final to record their 43rd Scottish Cup win and a world-record ninth domestic treble.
