Simon Jordan sends another reality check to Graeme Souness about Celtic and Rangers

Celtic continue to cruise under Brendan Rodgers.

This festive period is huge for the club because it can allow Rodgers to breathe a little easier during the second half of the season if he gets things right in these coming weeks.

From Celtic’s trip to Aberdeen to the League Cup final, it’s all to play for, as well as juggling those all-important Champions League matches.

As of this moment, the gap between the champions and second-placed Aberdeen is four points – and that’s with a game in hand.

The gap is even bigger between Celtic and Rangers, with the Bhoys 11 clear and the signs suggesting that it will only grow and grow.

Yes, there might be some, such as Graeme Souness, who have previously questioned the gap between Celtic and Rangers.

But, once again, as the performances continue to show, Souness is being proven wrong and Simon Jordan wanted to send a little reminder to his fellow pundit.

Simon Jordan highlights ‘quite significant’ gulf between Celtic and Rangers

Martin O’Neill has again dropped his pennies worth on this matter and Simon Jordan has also joined in the conversation on talkSPORT.

The former Crystal Palace owner played down Celtic and Rangers playing out seemingly close contests on the pitch, even though Rodgers’ side didn’t get out of first gear for the 3-0 win in September.

And how there is a ‘quite significant’ gap, including how Celtic are ‘winning the war’ and racking up the league titles.

“To be fair to Graeme, his argument was that, in the games Rangers played against Celtic, the difference between the two sides wasn’t so vast because the results were nip and tuck results,” claimed Jordan.

“They weren’t getting beat three’s, four’s and five’s. They were in those games. That was, in essence, what Graeme’s point was. It was then made bigger by myself and Martin, ‘yeah, the gulf between the two sides is quite significant’.

“That’s the point we were going ‘you win your battles, but you have to win the war, in the end’. Winning the war at the end is winning the league. If you are 15 points behind Celtic at the end of the season, you are miles off them, aren’t you?!”

Celtic’s upcoming fixtures

If Celtic do what they do best, then the gap between the top and the rest will be double figures by the time the Ibrox fixture comes about in the New Year.

There is a lot of football to be played between then, including a trip to Croatia to take on RB Leipzig in the Champions League and then, days later, facing Rangers in the League Cup final.

Interestingly enough, Ange Postecoglou could give Celtic a helping hand because Tottenham face Rangers days before the Celtic clash, and lose that heavily, then morale will be completely out of the window for Clement.
