Celtic’s title push turns to Motherwell on Saturday after a rare midweek break for Martin O’Neill’s side.
The dust is still settling from that chaotic Scottish Cup win over Rangers, but focus must quickly turn to a very strong and able Motherwell team.
One of the issues Martin O’Neill has to deal with is who starts up front for Celtic against the Steelmen?
67 Hail Hail writers have had their say, with the majority backing Tomas Cvancara, and Kelechi Iheanacho getting dismissed altogether.
“I will be another one backing Cvancara to start against the Steelmen,’ stated one of our writers. “I have made it clear before that I wouldn’t even select Kelechi Iheanacho again.”
Who should start up front for Celtic against Motherwell?

Oooft. Here is my two bob’s worth. It’s clear Iheanacho and Cvancara still have a bit of work to do to convince O’Neill that the number nine starting spot should be theirs.
What should not happen is all this talk about starting Benjamin Nygren up front. Celtic will lose the best of him and his ability to find space and pockets, which has led to his fantastic goalscoring record this season. With Junior Adamu failing to impress, Daizen Maeda should be given the nod to lead the line.

With Iheanacho out of the picture, logic tells me it should be Cvancara. You could argue that he was unlucky not to start either of the derbies at Ibrox, but I’m confident that there’s a Celtic striker in there, and we’ll only see that if he gets a run of starts.
Big Tam up front with Maeda and Tounekti on the wings.

I think Cvancara will be given the nod. Have I been totally convinced by him? No; however, he has offered more than the other two options.
He kept his nerve at Ibrox to win the shootout and remains a focal point for wide players to get the ball into the box, as well as encouraging midfielders to make runs from deep with his hold-up play.

I will be another one backing Cvancara to start against the Steelmen. I have made it clear before that I wouldn’t even select Iheanacho again. You can debate and get frustrated over an individual’s skill set or quality, which is the case with Cvancara, Adamu and Maeda. But having fitness issues in March is a big no-no and a disgrace.
But there is something there in Cvancara’s game. Yes, you want more from him, but he is playing in a declining, out-of-sorts team, and you just wonder how he would fare if he had more stability and better quality around him.
Those changes aren’t going to happen now, but he is the best suited out of all the other options, and you just wonder what confidence boost he has taken from that penalty against Rangers. Get him back in.
