Alistair Johnston has all but confirmed that he’s staying at Celtic with his recent social media activity.
This time last year, the defender was linked with Fulham and Ipswich after his best campaign yet in a hooped jersey.
Injury has ruled Johnston out for much of this season, but with a home World Cup approaching in a few weeks, he’ll be back in the shop window soon.
It’s a relief, then, that he wants his brother to join him in Glasgow next season!

X account @IFBMedia had noted that Johnston was eligible for Ireland and Northern Ireland due to his mother from Poleglass in Belfast, and that this could make Malcolm, his brother, of interest to Irish clubs.
Johnston endorsed the post with bullseye emojis.

He wrote: “[He] has an EU & UK passport and would love to play overseas… (the closer to Glasgow the better, haha)…
“Any clubs interested in him on a free transfer then reach out to Malcolm directly over instagram @Malcolmjohnston_ or our agent @Rem.Sports.”
The Glasgow comment is particularly telling; Johnston is making it clear that he sees himself playing in Glasgow next season.
Malcolm Johnston, two years Alistair’s junior, has played at MLS reserve level with Vancouver Whitecaps and, most recently, Portland Timbers.
At college level, he made 61 appearances for Maryland Terrapins, earning himself an MLS SuperDraft pick by New York City.
Celtic’s Johnston is contracted until 2029 and has now made over half of his professional career appearances for the Hoops.

Speaking about his nerves during the season’s run-in, Johnston admitted: “[I’m] one of the worst. I actually don’t understand how people do it.
“Going in there every match. I was living through it every single moment of it. Falling to my knees, sometimes.
“It was a difficult spell. We weren’t winning every match, and the ones we were winning, they weren’t always the most comfortable of victories, let’s just say that. It was quite nervy the whole time.
“But at the same time, there is no help like being on the park. We all know that. That’s something that has motivated me to get back, and hopefully, be able to play an important part in this run-in here, because I do know what I can bring to the game for our team.
“A different kind of aspect, my style of play adds to it. I also know that I am a right-back. Not a number nine that’s going to be bagging ten goals in this last month.
“But if I can help in any way possible. Also, just bring a level of comfort and confidence to the team as well when I am on the pitch. That’s something I am trying to do.
“I have seen how long this season has felt. It has felt like multiple seasons all bundled into one. At the same time, I have been injured and have hardly played, so it kind of feels like short. It has been a weird one all around during these past ten months.”
