It was a positive start to the season for Celtic, picking up our first three points of the campaign and heading straight to the top of the league.

Goals in the first and second half from Stephen Welsh and Jota helped the Bhoys on their way to victory in front of a packed crowd at Paradise.

There were plenty of positives to take away from the victory over Aberdeen. However, it is fair to say Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou thought his side’s performance could have been better.

The 56-year-old was happy to see his squad take home their first three points of the new season but insisted there are still plenty of improvements to come.

Speaking to the press, Postecoglou believes the Hoops went through spells of slack play and should have been more clinical. However, he also stated these are lessons that his side will learn from.

He said: [Daily Record]: “It was a solid performance, but we were just wasteful in front of goal. I was disappointed because I thought we could have been a lot more clinical with the chances we created. If we’d taken them, we could have put the game well to bed.

“Sometimes, you can fall into the trap of knowing we will create loads of opportunities, and because of that, you are not as focused as you should be. My view is we are creating opportunities, so let’s take as many as we can.

“I thought we started the game really well, and the first half-hour were really good. The last 15 minutes of the first half, we got slack with our passing and not as aggressive with our press on the ball.

“We let the game be more open than it should have been, which was disappointing. I thought after the break we got control again and we finished strongly. It was a decent workout. Our movement was good, and our passing was good.

“But, we could have had more chances if we made better decisions in the final third. You can’t just dismiss the last 15 minutes of the first half. There are lessons in there as other teams may punish you in that period.”

Postecoglou’s latest post-match comments should leave Celtic fans excited for what is to come.

Coming away from Parkhead yesterday afternoon, the Celtic fans would have been buzzing to start off the new season as we left last – in a winning fashion.

However, as always, Ange Postecoglou was keeping a cool head in the immediate aftermath when assessing his side’s performance.

As the former Socceroos boss describes, it was a solid display from his squad. Was it perfect, though? Definitely not.

Although Postecoglou would have been happy with the three points, it doesn’t sound as though he was too pleased with certain aspects of his side’s performance.

These comments should leave Celtic fans buzzing for what is next for this squad, with improvements highly likely to come within the next few weeks.

Should those improvements not arrive soon, the Celtic manager now has a squad big enough to make effective changes that could send a wake-up call to members of the side.

The positive news for Postecoglou and his staff now is they have the entire week to work on those improvements before our return to action against Ross County next Saturday.

The Celtic boss is setting his standards high once again this season, and it will be exciting to watch the next steps this team takes within the next few weeks.
