Brendan Rodgers must unleash benched Celtic duo and start them v Dundee United

Brendan Rodgers will now have to turn Celtic’s attention back to Premiership action on Sunday.

It has been an emotional and draining week for the club after Celtic’s penalty shootout victory over Rangers in the League Cup final.

It took a lot out of the players, especially after having to play 120 minutes, but there is little time to rest because the Christmas period is upon us.

A trip to Tannadice awaits Celtic before everyone stuffs themselves on Christmas day, with a Boxing Day showdown against Motherwell at Parkhead, the visit of St Johnstone three days later and the New Year starts with a bang at Ibrox.

A lot has been said about the strength of Celtic’s squad and how it has never been as strong as it is now.

It’s time for Rodgers to unleash all of that and he needs to start for the trip to Dundee United and there are two players who are deserving of getting back into the XI.

Brendan Rodgers needs to start Liam Scales and Adam Idah for Celtic’s clash against Dundee United

Liam Scales and Adam Idah came off the bench to help Celtic beat Rangers in the six-goal Hampden thriller.

From Scales improving Celtic’s build-up play in the second half to Idah scoring his penalty in the shootout.

They proved their worth and should now start ahead of Auston Trusty and Kyogo Furuhashi, respectively.

Trusty can possibly come back into the XI for one of the games before the Rangers trip, but Kyogo needs dropping because he has been very quiet during the last two matches.

Celtic’s draw against Dinamo Zagreb and then the League Cup final win, he isn’t getting involved as much as you would like and it’s time for Idah to start a few games.

Kyogo criticised for Celtic showing against Rangers

Idah hasn’t been purchased for big bucks just to warm the bench, at some stage, he needs the chance to push Kyogo.

If he can do that, then there will only be one winner and that’s Celtic.

And given Kyogo’s recent performances, especially in the League Cup final, then this is the ideal chance to make a change, with Mark Wilson and Paul Slane critical of his Hampden showing, as they told Open Goal.

Paul Slane asked: “What do you think of Kyogo? For me, he isn’t doing enough. It must be so frustrating for Kyogo, though. He doesn’t get many chances.”

Wilson responded: “I can’t remember him touching the ball in the first half. When Idah came on, he linked it up a little bit and come short.”
