While the former Hoops loanee has impressed in his two managerial jobs, there are still reservations about him being handed the reins at Parkhead.

One fan said: “He hasn’t got a lot of experience meaning Celtic is too big a club for him.”

This supporter was in favour of him being appointed, though, replying: “Yes. He’s been impressive with that crowd he’s with.”

A fourth added: “No thanks, there’s better options out there.”

Another commented: “No. Absolutely loved him as a player. I want the Bodo manager, though that looks unlikely. Martinez would do me or the Motherwell manager.”

The 45-year-old is in a title race in Hungary with Ferencvaros, as well as looking to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League, which has grabbed the attention of clubs around the continent.

At times the Hoops have been accused of looking lacklustre but, with Keane in charge, they will be expected to work hard.

“My training sessions are always intense,” he said after his side’s 2-0 win against Braga.

“The guys are pushing their limits. I don’t know what our opponent expected, but we stuck to what we had agreed on beforehand, our plan worked.”
