Potential Celtic starting XI vs Aberdeen at Hampden
Several big-hitters have returned for Celtic over the last few weeks, leaving Rodgers in an ideal position to shape his line-up for the occasion that lies ahead this evening.
As expected, Kasper Schmeichel will start between the sticks after keeping his eighth clean sheet of the season against Dundee, providing an assured presence behind the backline.
Intriguingly, the defensive line is where is gets interesting for Celtic. Auston Trusty has settled in nicely and looks to be a real find due to his power and speed, but Liam Scales will just get the nod ahead of the United States international alongside stalwart Cameron Carter-Vickers, who needs no introduction.
Flanking them, there is also a compelling case for talented loanee Alex Valle to come in amid his recent displays. Nevertheless, Greg Taylor will assume his natural position at left-back and Alistair Johnston comes back in on the right, completing a familiar back four.
Evaluating the midfield, Luke McCowan is cup-tied and will miss out for Celtic. Callum McGregor has recovered from an adductor problem and goes straight in. He will be expected to lead from the front as his superb Hampden record goes under the microscope.
Despite Paulo Bernardo’s positive form, Arne Engels and Reo Hatate will complete the midfield trio, offering a fine balance of grit and creative intuition against a stubborn opponent.
On the flanks, Rodgers’ selection choices will be fairly self explanatory. Daizen Maeda starts on the left and talisman Nicolas Kuhn is drafted in on the right-hand side. Both are in excellent fettle this term, making this part of the selection process the easiest to determine.
Kyogo Furuhashi will be charged with leading the line despite Adam Idah’s availability. Put simply, the Japan international is the man for the big moment at Celtic, while the Irishman’s presence on the bench could come in handy.
Your full predicted XI against Aberdeen is as follows: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor, McGregor, Hatate, Engels, Maeda, Kuhn, Furuhashi.
