Celtic unrest runs deeper than Green Brigade as Chris Sutton issues warning

Celtic’s latest attempt at unity ahead of the run-in does not address the scale of unrest inside the club, with dissatisfaction now stretching far beyond the Green Brigade and into the heart of the support.

The return of the Celtic Ultras has been framed as a necessary step to restore atmosphere for the final stretch of the season and it has been presented as an all hands on deck moment.

That only holds if the problem was isolated to one section of the support. It was not, and it never has been.

Chris Sutton’s assessment cuts through the surface narrative and points to something much deeper inside Celtic Park.

GREEN BRIGADE RETURN

Celtic unrest is not confined to the Green Brigade, it never has been

Sutton made it clear there has been plenty of unrest and anger spread through the stadium, not just from one corner. That alone shifts the conversation away from the Green Brigade.

He went further by highlighting that some of the unhappy supporters are wealthy fans who sit in the directors’ box. That is not a fringe protest, it is dissatisfaction reaching into the club’s most influential spaces.

No one disputes the Green Brigade bring energy, and their absence has had a visible impact on the atmosphere. The noise matters, but it does not explain why frustration has spread across the entire support.

Sutton said: “There has been plenty of unrest and anger spread through the stadium, it’s not just come from one corner. A large number of supporters are unhappy with the way the club is being run – and some of them are wealthy fans who sit in the directors’ box section as well.

“No one can deny though that the ultras do bring the noise. And the dispute with the club has certainly had an impact on the atmosphere. By allowing the group back in for the remaining games, it does send out a message that it’s now all hands on deck.

“Martin O’Neill and this patchwork team are going to need all the help they can get.

“That’s why the animosity has to be put to one side for now. No one is suggesting there doesn’t need to be massive changes in the coming weeks, it’s not an endorsement of anyone or a complete change of heart.

“That’s not going to happen. But it should be an amnesty. There can’t be anti-board chants if things are not going the team’s way on the pitch.

“Don’t be fooled though. If St Mirren get a result then all bets will be off again.”

Celtic Fans Collective are delaying reaction, not abandoning it

The current mood around Celtic is not one of resolution, it is one of delay. The decision to quieten tensions now reflects timing rather than agreement.

The message shared by the Celtic Fans Collective already made that clear.

That stance aligns with Sutton’s call for a temporary reset, not a permanent shift. The idea that reaction will return if results go against the team underlines how quickly the atmosphere could turn again.

This is not a unified support base moving forward together. It is a Celtic support holding its position until the football no longer justifies restraint.

The Green Brigade’s return may lift the atmosphere inside Celtic Park for the title run-in, but it does not remove the underlying tension that has been building across the stadium.

Celtic may benefit from a temporary lift, but the broader problems have not gone away. This is a holding period, not a solution.
