Celtic’s position remains untouched after fresh Juranovic reports

Reports in Scotland have stated that Spanish side Real Sociedad are set to join Atletico Madrid in scouting Celtic’s Josip Juranovic.

The 27-year-old is currently performing for his country at the World Cup in Qatar after he helped Croatia reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Juranovic has featured in all four of his nation’s games and is expected to keep his starting spot against Brazil on Friday.

After impressing for his country and during his 18 months at Celtic, many clubs from across Europe will be keeping a close eye on the right-back.

Following transfer interest in the summer, reports in Spain on Wednesday afternoon stated that Atletico Madrid were set to scout Juranovic in action on Friday.

According to a report from Sun Sport, Diego Simeone’s side won’t be the only La Liga team watching the Celtic defender, with Real Sociedad also sending scouts to Qatar to see Juranovic.

The report states that Atletico are eyeing up a ‘£10 million-plus January move’, and Celtic are in the perfect position to dictate proceedings.

Of course, with clubs from one of the best leagues in the world watching closely, there is bound to be some intrigue from Juranovic’s side of things.

In the past, we have seen these transfer proceedings dictated by the players and their representatives when other club’s become interested.

Usually, this is because of the contract situation for said player at Celtic. However, on this occasion, the Bhoys are sitting in the ideal position and continue to hold all the cards.

Having only been at the club for just over a year, Juranovic is still tied down to a long-term contract at Parkhead. So, any club interested in acquiring the right-back will have to pay the fee we demand.

Despite wanting to look at his options in January, it has been said that the Croatian international is in no rush to depart the Hoops, which can only help the Bhoys in our transfer negotiations if a club doesn’t meet our demands.

In the event that one of these Spanish sides does advance on their interest and ends up closing in on a deal for Juranovic, then we are still in the ideal position, having already signed a replacement.

The addition of Alistair Johnston means Ange Postecoglou will already have another right-back in place this January, and his squad depth goes unaffected.

So, although it may be slightly disappointing to lose a top performer like Juranovic in the event that he does leave, a deal will only take place on our terms.

The club seem to have all bases covered at this point in time in the event that interest arrives in the defender this January, which appears likely.

If any club chooses to try and pursue the Croatian, they must pay the fee that we demand, and Juranovic will only be let go if that price is met or negotiated.

But in the event that the former Legia Warsaw man does exit, we already have our replacement in place, ready to go from January 1st.

It is certainly a different feeling to be this prepared heading into the January transfer window. But I think we can agree, it is one that we all could get used it.

Either way, when it comes to any sort of interest in Juranovic this winter, Celtic are sitting in a good position and will hold all of the cards.
