Craig Bellamy’s call on Burnley job makes things interesting for Celtic after Martin O’Neill

Craig Bellamy was heavily linked with the Celtic job before Martin O’Neill was given the reins for next season.

Although the former Celtic striker has been securely in position as the Wales manager since July 2024, swirling reports have been suggesting he could be headed for the exit door.

There were claims that Bellamy was closing in on the Burnley job, but that has now collapsed, and he will stay put on the international stage.

Given that Bellamy’s name has been on Celtic’s radar, and they like bringing in coaches connected with the club, you do wonder if his name will pop up again in the near future.

What type of changes would you make to Celtic Park? 🏟️🤔

Reasons why Craig Bellamy won’t become Burnley manager

According to BBC Sport, Bellamy’s proposed return to Burnley has collapsed, with the breakdown reportedly centring around his backroom staff rather than the job itself, despite his previous success there as Vincent Kompany’s assistant.

Celtic fans will be well-versed in the topic of backroom staff, given the current situation with Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham.

Nonetheless, it has been claimed that Burnley had no trouble meeting the compensation for Bellamy’s services, but the move is now off, and recently sacked Wolves coach Rob Edwards is now a contender for the Turf Moor gig.

Life after Martin O’Neill for Celtic

Celtic should be grateful towards Martin O’Neill, even if the board aren’t showing it, given the situation around Maloney and Fotheringham.

Celtic’s domestic double success made it pretty easy for O’Neill to stay on for next season.

But the 74-year-old simply can’t be in the dugout long-term, and you do wonder who will be the next man in the Parkhead dugout.

Hopefully, it won’t be Robbie Keane, given the strong links with the former Republic of Ireland striker before O’Neill’s return was confirmed.

But if Bellamy continues to grow as a coach, and he does it in style, then perhaps Celtic will consider him for the main role again.
