Celtic silence over Bolingoli suggests he won’t be sacked

One of the biggest stories in recent Celtic history is in danger of dying out a little.

When full-back Boli Bolingoli travelled to COVID hit Spain, and failed to quarantine on his return, it’s fair to say many Celtic fans were riled.

And that anger wasn’t limited to just the support either. Shortly after the news broke, the club posted an unprecedented statement lambasting the player, while Neil Lennon also vented his frustration at a later press conference.

In that furious statement, Celtic said they would take their “own disciplinary procedures”.

So nearly a month down the line, what has happened?

Lennon update, and what the future may hold

Lennon gave an update on the situation just last week, saying: “Is he back in training? He’s not, no.

“He’s still under investigation but we’re hoping that will be resolved in the next day or two.

“I think his quarantine time is up, but we’ve not spoken yet.” (Glasgow Times)

Celtic’s silence on the issue is a little intriguing. Perhaps it’s just down to the club’s subsequent exit of the Champions League and the furore that caused.

Perhaps it’s simply because Lennon hasn’t spoken to the press since Sunday.

Whatever the case, it seems like Celtic’s nuclear option of terminating the Belgian’s contract is off the table.

Sacking a player that cost us £3million (Scottish Sun) a year ago may not make a lot of sense, but that’s exactly what many were calling for the club to do when the story first broke.

Emotions were running high and many felt we should just cut all ties with the player, sending a clear message that COVID breaches wouldn’t be tolerated.

It seems like Celtic won’t be exercising that right now. That doesn’t mean that Boli has any sort of future at the club though.

Expect him to leave the club before October 5th.

In other news, Celtic Park has received another neat Adidas addition, judging by an online photo
