One aspect of Celtic’s 5-1 win over Hamilton last Sunday that has perhaps been overlooked is the performance of Greg Taylor.
The left-back turned in possibly his best performance for the Hoops yet. He provided assists for the first two Celtic goals, with excellent balls across the penalty box which were finished in style by Odsonne Edouard and Jeremie Frimpong.
Taylor is already well on the way to beating the total of five assists he got last season. Neil Lennon would have been delighted with his performance.
Overcame slow start to Hoops career
Taylor might have had a slow start to his Celtic career. However, there is no doubt that for the moment, he is the first choice left-back at the club.
Will that be the case for the rest of the season? Only time will tell. It would not be a shock to see the Hoops sign another left-back to provide competition for Taylor.
Wait, you might think: what about Boli Bolingoli, isn’t he still at the club? He is, but following some poor performances in pre-season he might not be at Celtic for much longer.
Therefore, don’t be surprised to see another left-back arrive sooner rather than later. Taylor has already put a marker down for any new arrival with his performance against Hamilton.
Won’t give up position in side without a fight
He seems to be suggesting that he won’t give up the left-back berth without a fight, which is what Neil Lennon will want.
Taylor will face another test on Sunday, when he returns to his former club Kilmarnock. However, as he is well-used to playing on the plastic pitch it would not be a shock to see the player turn in another good performance for the Hoops.
Greg Taylor is currently enjoying the best spell of his Celtic career. He should be confident that will continue even if Neil Lennon decides to sign another left-back.
