Haissem Hassan’s name has been discussed by Celtic fans as many spoke about Egypt’s World Cup winger being someone Martin O’Neill should look at this summer.
Hassan shone in Egypt’s defeat to Argentina as they crashed out of the World Cup 3-2 after being 2-0 up with just over 20 minutes left to play.
As Lionel Messi grabbed all the headlines, it was Hassan who caught the attention of Celtic fans online. But as his price tag emerges, should the Parkhead club take a closer look at the Egyptian international winger?

The Daily Record reports that Hassan has a £10m release clause in his contract should clubs wish to exercise it and land the Egypt star.
However, it is believed Real Oviedo would be willing to accept offers of around £4m for their World Cup winger, which begs one question.
Why are the La Liga side willing to allow Hassan to leave at such a low price considering his performances on the world’s biggest stage?
Haissem Hassan’s World Cup gives Celtic a £4m decision
With Celtic needing attacking reinforcements for next season, did Hassan do enough at the World Cup to persuade O’Neill to take a look at the winger?
Here are his stats from the summer tournament:
Strongest stats
- 0 times dispossessed
- 0.48 expected assists
- 1 assist
- 5 successful dribbles
- 62.5% dribble success
- 85.4% pass accuracy
- 1 big chance created
- 7 touches in opposition box
Weakest stats
- 0 goals
- 1 shot
- 0.15 xG
- 22.2% cross accuracy
- 2 yellow cards
- 1 penalty conceded
- 2 defensive contributions
The numbers suggest Hassan is more creator than goalscorer. At £4m, though, there is enough there to argue he deserves serious consideration.
At £10m, Celtic should probably stay away. At £4m, Hassan becomes exactly the kind of market opportunity worth investigating, especially if O’Neill wants more pace and creativity in the side next season.
