Ismaila Soro should be given big Celtic chance in next run of games; Betfred Cup tie looks ideal

When the international break mercifully comes to an end, Celtic will have three more fixtures to navigate before the Hoops head into a hectic December.

Arguably the most important of these fixtures is on Saturday, when the Hoops take on Hibernian in a vital league fixture.

That is then followed by a Europa League trip to Sparta Prague and a Betfred Cup tie against Ross County.

Interesting team selections ahead

Now, the team selection for the Europa League and Betfred Cup ties will be most interesting. The first choice Celtic team will start against Hibernian, of that there is no doubt.

However, Neil Lennon may decide to make changes for the games against Prague and Ross County. The Ross County game in particular could be interesting for the team that the manager picks.

One player who must be a candidate to start his first ever Celtic game against County is Ismaila Soro. The £2m January signing from Bnei Yehuda has only made three appearances for the Hoops since joining the club. None of those appearances have been starts either.

He seems all but forgotten, as he didn’t even make the bench for the recent win over Motherwell. However, that should change for the Ross County game. It makes all the sense in the world for Soro to make his first start in the Betfred Cup tie.

Would be a good test for the player

For a start, it will be a good test for the player. Ross County are a decent Premiership side. It’s not like Soro would be testing himself against a first or second division team.

Secondly, it will give those watching the game a chance to see if Soro works in the midfield role usually played by Scott Brown. Two of his three Celtic performances have been as late replacements for Brown.

We won’t know just how good a player can be for Celtic until they get some game time. Look at Diego Laxalt. He has been brilliant for Celtic as he has been given the opportunity to play. Hopefully the same will be true of Soro.

It is time that he gets his first start, and the game against Ross County seems ideal.

In other news, the date and time of the next Glasgow derby has been confirmed.
