Lewis Morgan may still benefit from a loan move from Celtic

It’s fair to say that Lewis Morgan has been one of the surprise packages for Celtic in the early part of the season.

The 22-year-old hasn’t played a great deal of football for Neil Lennon’s men so far, but when he has he’s looked like he could add something. Morgan has a quick turn of pace and a good final ball – showcased in the Hoops’ final goal in the 3-1 win in Sarajevo.

He’s certainly come a fair way in a short space of time.

However, we’d be lying if we said that Morgan was the finished article, or anywhere near it. While the young winger has shown that he’s got something in his fleeting appearances – we’re all not quite sure what that something is.

The former St. Mirren man has lots of improvements to make. He fails to get his head up quite frequently, running into congested alleys rather moving where the space is. He’s quick but could definitely work on some powerful running. And his defensive work needs to come on too.

With all that in mind, is it still worth considering a loan move for the 22-year-old? You only need to look at three of Celtic’s current stars to see the benefits a loan move can have. Ryan Christie, Kristoffer Ajer and Callum McGregor all benefitted massively from being the main man at smaller clubs.

All three played at a decent enough level, but a level where they could thrive and learn on the job. With the amount of wingers Neil Lennon currently has at his disposal it may be worth Morgan doing the same.

The Hoops still have Marian Shved and Daniel Arzani to return from injury while Scott Sinclair is yet to make an impact. While Morgan is currently ahead of those three in the pecking order, that may not always be the case this season.

It wouldn’t be labelling Morgan as a failure by loaning him out again. Just admitting that he still has bits of his game to refine.
