Lorent Tolaj could be Celtic’s new Gary Hooper if they make move for League One forward

Celtic are linked with Lorent Tolaj and there are similarities with when the Hoops signed Gary Hooper.

According to the Daily Mail, Celtic are leading the race to sign Tolaj, who has enjoyed a stellar debut season with Plymouth Argyle.

He has scored 18 goals for the League One side, something the Hoops have desperately missed. It would be a gamble, but then again, so was Hooper.

Should Celtic take more risks on lower league players?

Gary Hooper joined Celtic while playing in League One

Like Tolaj, Celtic also discovered Hooper while he was playing in League One at Scunthorpe United.

Neil Lennon thinks he was the best striker since Henrik Larsson and decided that he wanted to sign him only 10 minutes after watching him.

The forward went on to score 82 times in 138 appearances and was one of the most clinical in recent Celtic history.

Tolaj, 22, bagged a brace in their most recent game against Cardiff City and Plymouth are now chasing a play-off spot.

Lorent Tolaj could be a cheaper alternative to Armando Gonzalez

The other striker in the conversation is Armando Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is one of Mexico’s most exciting talents and has scored 17 goals for Chivas in the domestic league’s top flight.

He and Tolaj play at different levels, but one thing that will be different is how much both are worth.

Whereas Tolaj will cost less than £10m, a striker set to feature at the World Cup this summer will more than likely demand a record fee for his services.
