Marcelo Saracchi has given Celtic a lot to think about before the summer window, and Martin O’Neill has now added another layer to a decision that already felt worth making.

Saracchi was one of the difference makers in the final day victory against Hearts, and there has been a clamour from Celtic fans for the Uruguay international to join permanently.

Talks are underway between Boca Juniors and Celtic over Saracchi signing and it is fair to say that O’Neill has made his position clear on what the Hoops should do.

Martin O’Neill’s dressing-room message should not be brushed aside

As Celtic celebrated winning the Scottish Premiership in the Celtic Park changing rooms, O’Neill called out Saracchi and singled him out for his performances.

The Northern Irishman called out the 28-year-old in front of his teammates and put his arm around his shoulder, calling him a “special character”.

His popularity was evident to see as the likes of Callum McGregor and James Forrest audibly cheered following the appraisal from the Celtic legend.

Celtic board can’t allow Marcelo Saracchi deal to break down

Fans want Saracchi to stay and believe that he would be a big contribution for the next stage of the Celtic era.

All eyes will be on the Celtic board now, who will have the task of negotiating a permanent deal for the left-back.

While he may not be a guaranteed starter, his impact off the bench and role he plays as a natural competitor to Kieran Tierney, makes Celtic tick.

Out of contract at Boca in 2027, Saracchi could be available for a lower fee than other options and out of every position that needs filling, this is the easiest one that they can resolve.
