Neil Lennon admitted that he understands Celtic fans’ frustrations over the ‘disappointing’ January transfer window, but this goes against his previous support for the Celtic board.

Speaking on Premier Sports Ireland, Lennon said that he could sympathise with the view that the quality of additions haven’t been good enough, which have played a role in the Hoops’ struggles this season.

However, that goes against what the former Celtic manager said about the board in the transfer window.

Supporters have criticised the lack of spending in the market, something Lennon now agrees with, despite defending the hierarchy back in 2024.

“How do we know that Celtic haven’t tried to spend £10-12million on a player? Or £15million?” he said after a 1-1 draw against Aberdeen.

“Can we attract players of that quality, of that price to Scotland? What I am saying is that I am sure they have looked around for these types of players. They might not be available. They might not want to come.”

The first thing I would do if I was on the Celtic board is – – – –

In September 2025, Lennon went one step further and even remarked that Dermot Desmond and co are ‘world class’ in the way they operate.

He added: “The club have been so successful under this stewardship of the board and Mr Desmond at the helm. The success he’s brought from 2000 has been unparalleled.

“I work with these people, they’re class operators, they know the environment, they know the culture of European football and they do look ahead.”

To hear someone who has been such a staunch advocate for the Celtic board over so many years actively change his tune and call out the way the Hoops have been acting in the market is a real surprise and a sign of the decline over the last 12 months.
