Nick Pope and two other players that Celtic should consider signing in 2026

The January transfer window is around the corner and that means plans are going to be put in place for potential additions.

Whoever comes in as the new Celtic manager will hopefully be given a chance to put their mark on the squad.

Sadly, the January window is notoriously difficult to operate in and business is left until the very end.

There are some signs that the Hoops may do business, with 67 Hail Hail revealing that a possible loan for Lennon Miller could be on the cards.

With that, here are three players we have picked out that could be a perfect option to sign next year.

Poll: Which position do Celtic need to strengthen in the 2026 January transfer window?

Nick Pope – Newcastle United

Kasper Schmeichel is unlikely to be around next season, and even though Viljami Sinisalo has proven he is capable a number of times, another shot-stopper will need to come in.

Nick Pope is at Newcastle United this summer, and they may consider upgrading on the 33-year-old in order to aid their quest to reach the top of English football.

He has lots of experience at the top level of football and could provide a safe pair of hands between the sticks.

Pope’s wages could be a stumbling block, with Spotrac reporting that he earns £60,000-a-week, but the allure of playing every week in front of Celtic fans, as well as European football, could be appealing.

Denys Popov – Dynamo Kyiv

Although he is injured, Cameron Carter-Vickers could be another player who leaves next season.

Leeds United were one of the clubs interested in Carter-Vickers last summer, but no move ever came off.

Denys Popov has been at Dynamo Kyiv his whole career but now looks like he is going to enjoy a new challenge.

The 26-year-old was close to joining English side Watford a few months ago, but he remained in Ukraine.

Crucially, Popov has European experience but hasn’t played as much this year due to injury.

He would be a great option to come into the fold and boost the Hoops’ back line.

Dan Neil – Sunderland

One day Callum McGregor will retire from football and Celtic need to be ready to replace him with a leader that can control games.

Dan Neil did that perfectly for boyhood club Sunderland as they reached the Premier League with a play-off final win against Sheffield United.

Since then, Neil has been a bit-part player and has spent the majority of this season on the bench.

At 23, he has a long career ahead of him and could easily slot into the role. His tenacious work rate and ability to pick out a pass suits the progressive football Celtic fans like to see.

Leaving the club he has supported all his life would be difficult, but surely he would want to play every week?
