Ross Doohan will be watching Celtic goalkeeping situation with interest
At the moment it seems like Neil Lennon isn’t quite sure who his number one goalkeeper is. Both Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain have had spells as the first-choice, with Bain having the position at the moment.
Sooner rather than later the Hoops boss will need to make a choice. At the moment there seems to be an uncertainty. One player who will be watching the Celtic goalkeeping situation with interesting is a Hoops goalkeeper who is currently on loan at another Premiership club – Ross Doohan, who is at Ross County.
Recently broke into Premiership first-team
Doohan, who is Scotland under-21s’ first choice goalkeeper, recently made his breakthrough into the County side.
He was named as man of the match in his debut against Hibernian by BBC Sport for helping County to a 0-0 draw. Doohan hasn’t kept a clean sheet in the two game since then.
However, with Celtic still trying to define the club’s best goalkeeper in the wake of Fraser Forster’s exit, Doohan could put himself into contention with a good season for Ross County.
Obviously there is a difference between playing for Celtic and playing for Ross County. However, it should be remembered that current Celtic number one Scott Bain was at Dundee before moving to the Hoops.
Manager will be keeping an eye on performances
Therefore, playing at a smaller Premiership club might not necessarily be an impediment to playing for Celtic. Neil Lennon will no doubt be keeping an eye on how well Doohan performs not only for Ross County, but for the Scotland under-21s as well.
Some good performances for both teams could put Doohan into contention for the Celtic goalkeeping spot next season.
All Doohan can do is keep playing well, and turn in enough eye-catching performances that Neil Lennon has no choice but to consider him for the Celtic firs-team squad next season. Doohan could end up having a real opportunity with Celtic, he has to take it.
