The calm before the storm; Celtic’s quiet Friday

Celtic begin their Premiership defence (or attack as Brendan Rodgers would probably put it) on Saturday against Ross County.

Celtic Park will be packed to the rafters and jumping for the 12:30pm visit of Malky Mackay’s side.

Any football fan is likely to admit that the first day of the season is one of the greatest times to be a supporter. Expectations are high, things are fresh, anything seems possible.

Tomorrow, things will be real again. Celtic will be able to register three points with victory and move to the top of the Premiership at the earliest of stages.

It’s all rather exciting. But Friday has been a little bit different.

Celtic’s decision to conduct their pre-match activity on Thursday has led to a quiet Friday at the club. Sure, we had 90 seconds of training footage at lunchtime, and we may get more later in the day, but there really hasn’t been a great deal coming out of the club.

You notice these things a lot more when your job is to find stories that people want to hear.

Yesterday, we had Brendan Rodgers and Callum McGregor in front of the media. Both had press conferences while McGregor also gave an exclusive interview with Sky Sports.

Rodgers, John Kennedy and Greg Taylor also spoke to the broadcaster earlier in the week.

We had a number of different things to talk about from the SFA. Their Head of Referee Operations Crawford Allan was also on Sky, while the governing body released information on VAR and gave a presentation to the Celtic players and staff.

In the absence of any more exciting transfer reports, it’s all been rather quiet. At least I’ve been able to get some stuff off my chest.

The calm before the storm? Let’s hope it’s a noisy one tomorrow.
