The obvious signing Brendan Rodgers should make to strengthen Celtic this summer

Brendan Rodgers will undoubtedly already be looking to strengthen Celtic for next season.

The Celtic manager will have a number of targets he will be hoping to bring to the club, especially with Champions League qualifiers now being part of the plans for next season.

With the Parkhead club’s financials in rude health, Rodgers is likely to have a healthy transfer budget at his disposal to use at the end of the season.

However, there is a signing that is a complete no-brainer that Rodgers should make that would strengthen the Celtic first-team squad and it won’t cost the club a single penny.

Brendan Rodgers must make Jeffrey Schlupp a permanent Celtic player

Jeffrey Schlupp joined Celtic on loan from Crystal Palace on January transfer deadline day. Since then, the Ghanaian international has made seven appearances for the club.

In that left-back role, Schlupp has brought strength and power and has equipped himself well for Celtic against Bayern Munich over two legs in the Champions League.

The 32-year-old has also shown that he can cope with the rigours and physical nature of Scottish football and also looks very competent when he switches into the attacking fullback role.

Versatile, Schlupp can play in almost any position including centre-back, midfield, full-back and has even been deployed as a holding midfielder.

And as a free agent, Celtic would only need to fork out wages for an experienced player who has pedigree as an English Premier League winner.

Jeffrey Schlupps current Celtic stats

With seven appearances under his belt, Schlupp has impressed Celtic supporters so far in his short spell at the club.

According to Fotmob, the experienced defender is averaging an impressive 7.08 for Celtic this season so here are the stats behind the loanees’ performances:

Not a bad start, and considering Schlupp would be a back-up to Kieran Tierney, this signing is surely a no-brainer for Brendan Rodgers.
