With Celtic leading the pack by nine points at the top of the Premiership, the players may be forgiven for feeling a little complacent.

After all, we have won 14 of our 15 league games so far this season, battering teams 3-0, 4-0, 5-0 and even 9-0.

Thankfully there is not even a hint of complacency coming from inside the walls at Lennoxtown, with Ange Postecoglou’s recent appearance on Celtic TV setting the tone for further improvement.

And that message has been echoed by a number of his players too already this season.

The most obvious example of a Celtic player saying all the right things arrived after the 4-0 triumph over our nearest challengers Rangers in September.

One of the heroes of the day, Jota, was asked by BBC Scotland about the title race.

“No, come on,” he responded. “This is September. This is too early.

“Last season people kept on saying they were in front of us, and the championship was done.

“Things don’t work like that, this is football. It is game after game.

“Until May, there is plenty of football to play. So, just chill. We have plenty of stuff to do.”

As we have come to understand, Postecoglou and his team don’t focus on the winning of trophies.

Instead, they look at what they can control – improving and being the best they can be every day.

The idea is that if they do that, the success will arrive naturally.

Had the team been nine points behind in the title race, our mid-season break would probably not have differed at all.

They’ll be ready to come back and be better than ever. As fans, we should be very excited about that.
