Celtic are set to refuse tickets once again for our upcoming derby against Rangers at Ibrox.
The Scottish Sun report that we won’t be taking our 700 allocation for the 3 September clash, unless “allocation or safety arrangements” are reviewed.
We didn’t have any fans at Ibrox for the final derby of last season, while the Premiership runners-up also didn’t have supporters at Celtic Park in the previous league clash.
Given that Celtic have made their feelings about the small corner allocation clear in the past, this update is perhaps the least surprising news of the summer so far.
Celtic are clearly not a fan of the current derby arrangements, and they are totally correct to take the stance when our supporters are unsafe at our rivals’ ground.
And so we reach another impasse. Meanwhile, at least two more derbies are likely to be played entirely in front of home supporters. It’s a real shame, and it’s all one club’s doing.

From this distance, it seems like things will only get better when the away derby allocation is reviewed at Ibrox.
While Celtic fans may harbour hopes of the full Broomloan again, that seems a pretty unlikely scenario, especially now Rangers have sold full season tickets in that stand.
What does seem entirely possible is a move to so-called European allocations at derby matches. This would equate to around 5% of both grounds being cordoned off for away supporters, like seen when Liverpool visited Ibrox last season.

That is the obvious solution to the current deadlock. It wouldn’t be quite like the old days, but it would be a million times better than the current arrangement.
With this latest report, Celtic seem to be making it clear that the 700 arrangement isn’t working for us. That stance puts the pressure on the Ibrox club, especially when a number of their supporters want to see things change as well.
