A piece of footballing art = Matthew Sean O’Riley of Celtic.
The stylistic and easy-on-the-eye nature of Matt O’Riley’s game is what makes him such a highly-valued figure among the Celtic supporters.
There is a lot of heat on the Celtic board of late, but one of the best things they did was tie down Matt O’Riley to a new contract.
Don’t get it twisted, there was promise, quality and strong performances from the 23-year-old last season, as Ange Postecoglou helped deliver one of the best seasons in the club’s history.
But it would be fair to argue and claim that he has been Celtic and Brendan Rodgers’ best performer so far this season.
From the rising Danish star’s 24 matches in all competitions, he has contributed to a goal or an assist in 15 of those games. Incredible numbers and consistency.
Matt O’Riley’s quality on the ball is there for all to see, whether he’s laying off an assist for Kyogo Furuhashi in the Champions League, producing one of the assists of the group stages itself to win the game against Feyenoord or his stunning strike against St Johnstone.

But it’s not just with the ball that he deserves plaudits, he is one of the best in the country without it too.
The 4-1 win at Hearts in October is proof of that. It was his clever off-the-ball run that was found by Luis Palma, which led to the team opening the scoring inside five minutes.
Not only has Matt O’Riley been Celtic’s best player so far this season, but he is the best footballer in Scotland today.
It also needs to be noted that he was recently capped by Denmark, and ahead of Euro 2024, there is no reason why he shouldn’t be on that plane to Germany.
