Well, another derby is in the books.
Yesterday’s match between Celtic and Rangers wasn’t a classic by any means.
In fact, it was probably more notable for the show of unity against racism and bigotry pre-match than it was for football.
With no victory, there’s no customary post-derby gloating. There’s no despondency or navel-gazing either. Celtic were the better side and probably deserved to win.
That makes the fall-out a rather dull affair.
What better way for Celtic to brighten up the news cycle and steal the spotlight for themselves than making the announcement every supporter is waiting on?
The club needs a director of football or a sporting director, or however it is phrased, sooner rather than later.
With a dull international break ahead, Celtic have the perfect chance to communicate and begin to implement the plan designed to win over season ticket holders ahead of the summer.
That will be a necessary PR campaign. If the club have a firm belief in the upcoming rebuild, it’s time to stop with the silence and start with the unveiling.
Reports over the weekend indicated that a move for Manchester City employee Fergal Harkin was ‘90% done’.
The reality is that any deal for a sporting director may not be complete and I’m just being an impatient so-and-so.
However, this is genuinely the perfect timing for all this and I’d be surprised if the club weren’t acutely aware of that.

It’s probably too soon to expect a manager announcement, but the club have kept their own counsel in the wake of Neil Lennon’s exit. It’s time to face the fans.
At the very least they need to give us an indication of what’s going on behind-the-scenes. Perhaps word from the chairman, chief executive or another senior official on how they’re conducting the recruitment search?
Otherwise, the next two weeks could be full of rumour and speculation that the club can’t control.
