What Celtic require from the final four weeks of the transfer window

The transfer window has just shy of four weeks to run, and Celtic have business to do.

The club have signed five new players so far this summer, all on permanent deals. Odin Thiago Holm, Marco Tilio, Hyunjun Yang, Hyeokkyu Kwon and Maik Nawrocki have all entered the building, but more acquisitions are needed.

If the transfer window was to end now most Celtic supporters would feel a little underwhelmed. Thankfully, we’ve got until Friday 1 September to get more business done.

Carl Starfelt’s imminent departure will see the club hunt for another centre-back, something Brendan Rodgers has already confirmed. Given the uncertainty over Liam Scales, Yuki Kobayashi and Stephen Welsh in that position, that seems like a must.

Beyond that, the signing of a first-team left-winger seems like the biggest need. Celtic have an abundance of wingers at the club but the majority prefer to play on the right.

Jota was such a huge player for us over the past two seasons. Replacing him won’t be easy, but that left-wing role has seemed like the position for a major statement signing for a good while. We’re still confident that will happen.

Many supporters feel strongly about the need for a new goalkeeper too. Joe Hart has been an important player since his arrival in 2021, but the time may be right to bring in something different.

A top-quality midfield addition could also be required as well as an additional forward for during the Asian Cup early next year.

In short, the Celtic squad right now is more than good enough to win the Premiership title for a third year in-a-row. For European progress, however, we need some quality additions.
