Maik Nawrocki’s absence being felt as former manager makes Celtic admission

The signing of Maik Nawrocki this summer already seems like a great piece of business by Brendan Rodgers.

The Polish defender already seems to have struck up a good partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of the Hoops defence and with Carl Starfelt looking ever likely to move on this summer, the capture of the big defender takes on even more importance this season.

The Celtic fans got a good look at Nawrocki in the win against Ross County and it is fair to say he impressed not only us, but also his former manager, Kosta Runjaic at Legia Warsaw.

Runjaic enjoyed a 3-0 win over Ruch Chorzow yesterday but still took the time to recognise the hole that Nawrocki has left since joining Celtic just over two weeks ago.

Runjaic said [Gol24], “I miss Maik Nawrocki. I watched his game where he made his debut for Celtic – it was an easy game.

“He is a central defender who is very good at playing the ball. His sale is part of the football business.” [translated by Deep L]

Maik Nawrocki is on for a big season at Celtic

As I said previously, Nawrocki’s capture is a great piece of business by Celtic. The Polish u21 international is clearly a very determined character and that will stand him in good stead for the season ahead.

Should Carl Starfelt leave Paradise this week, Nawrocki will automatically become the favoured partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of the Celtic defence.

With the Champions League group stages starting next month, Nawrocki will have that opportunity he has been yearning for to impress and, hopefully, stake a claim for the Polish national squad.

Not only that, Nawrocki also has tricky domestic fixtures coming thick and fast. With Aberdeen up next followed by Kilmarnock (away) then St Johnstone at home, Nawrocki then faces the prospect of heading to Ibrox for his Glasgow Derby debut.

The new few weeks will be huge for Nawrocki but looking at how he has handled himself so far, the Celtic fans will be confident of the challenges ahead with the 22-year-old heading up the defence.
