What next for Scott Sinclair after no move away from Celtic?

Scott Sinclair’s status at Celtic is currently a bit of a mystery.

The winger appears to be well down the pecking order, struggling to find his way into Neil Lennon’s first-team.

He hasn’t started a match for the Hoops since the last league game of last season against Hearts.

His last appearance from the bench came almost a month ago in the 5-2 victory over Motherwell.

Since then he hasn’t even been included in a single match squad.

Lennon hasn’t really explained the absence beyond claiming it’s a footballing issue and he has too many wingers. However, something doesn’t quite add up about that.

Lewis Morgan has been used instead of him this season.

Surely the experienced Englishman, whose scored 61 goals since arriving at the club in 2016, is a better option than the former St Mirren man who has offered little?

Despite reported interest from League One side Sunderland on deadline day (The Northern Echo), no move materialised.

It appears then that he’s caught in limbo at Celtic Park, and that’s not good news for us.

Sinclair is one of our higher earners at the club and recently extended his contract to the end of this season. That means we have a potentially unhappy player on the books earning a wage that could be put to better use elsewhere.

Something needs to give here and the obvious move is for Lennon to bring him back into the fold.

Despite Mohamed Elyounoussi’s arrival, Sinclair still has the ability to play a squad role at the club and be used as wing relief when needed.

A recent injury to Mikey Johnston means there’s an opening for Sinclair to work his way back into the side if he shows Lennon enough in training over the international break.

As long as he’s at Celtic Park, he should be an option considered by the manager.

In January the club can re-assess the situation. For now though, completely snubbing him is illogical and it should be sorted out.

If Lennon feels he can’t do that, supporters should be informed of what his situation actually is. Right now, for me, it’s a mystery.
