Celtic are on the prowl for new additions this summer and there is a buzz in the air with the transfer window set to open later in the week.
Speculation is bubbling under the surface regarding who could be on their way to Parkhead; meanwhile, outgoings are also expected to level out the playing squad.
Brendan Rodgers will have an idea of the profiles he desires to get Celtic to a point where they can juggle endeavours both domestically and in Europe; however, the Irishman is also aware that won’t be an easy task.
Proficient recruitment is needed to give the Bhoys a fighting chance of succeeding on the continent, and links with one particular target suggest they could be thinking along the right lines in that respect.
Why Flavius Daniliuc could symbolise smart business
All too often, Celtic have been accused in the past by some of not pushing the boat out to land transfer targets or asking the question to attractive propositions on the market.
Of course, this may be different to the reality of the situation internally. There is only so much in the public domain about how the club operate, especially given they tend to keep quiet until signings are verging on completion.
Now, as I digress, Celtic are said to have ‘concrete interest’ in Salernitana defender Flavius Daniliuc, who spent the second half of last campaign on loan at Red Bull Salzburg.

Not only has he got a rich footballing upbringing after spending time in Real Madrid’s youth system alongside Bayern Munich, where he then went on to feature for their second string, but he also has first-team experience at Nice and Salernitana, two clubs that have featured in Europe’s top-five leagues while he was there.
Celtic find themselves between a rock and a hard place in the market, representing an outpost for talent to earn experience in the Champions League and to compete for titles; nevertheless, the Bhoys are often stuck in a battle with cash-rich clubs from divisions with greater visibility to procure premium talent.
That cycle only changes with ambition and a change in tact, which may be a strategy the Bhoys are adopting to try and land Daniliuc.
Celtic need to put themselves out there for exciting targets
Red Bull Salzburg are keen to extend his stay at the Red Bull Arena. Given that he is an Austrian international involved in EURO 2024, many would consider that avenue the most sensible for both parties.
In spite of that, Celtic look to be putting themselves out there for the defender, and with a bit of luck, club chiefs can try and show off the selling points of the Scottish Premiership champions as a handier path to career progression.
Per Transfermarkt, he made 27 appearances at club eleven in 2023/24. Were he to arrive at Parkhead, there is a chance he could almost double those numbers, gaining greater exposure to elevate his promising status further.
Nevertheless, examining his profile, it is clear that Celtic are showing some intent to make an impact in the Champions League. Even if he doesn’t get signed, targets of a similar pedigree have to be considered by the club hierarchy, factoring in quality, potential to develop and sell-on value.
