Why Jordan Larsson to Celtic isn’t just fantasy football nonsense

Trust me, I understand why many of you were probably cynical when you heard the name Jordan Larsson being linked to Celtic yesterday.

First of all, as you may have noticed, the Bhoys haven’t actually been credited with an interest in the player. We have no idea what Celtic’s stance on this is.

This isn’t yet a case of Ange Postecoglou being in the running for his signature. So keep that in mind if you see constant updates on his situation over the next couple of weeks.

All we know is that Larsson is now a free agent and that multiple teams across Europe are looking at him. In many ways, it’d be easy to write it off as a lazy link.

His father, Henrik, is an icon and legend of the club and raised Jordan while playing for the Bhoys. As a kid, he was often at the stadium and even photographed many times enjoying his Dad’s performances, kitted up in Celtic gear.

The association is obvious, especially when you consider that he has previously said Celtic would be a “dream” move for him.

Beyond the emotional attachment though, it kind of makes sense. It isn’t just pie-in-the-sky absurdity. Jordan Larsson could be an excellent signing for Celtic this summer.

We know Postecoglou is looking for a third striker. We know Albian Ajeti isn’t fancied and, right now, isn’t even at Lennoxtown training.

The Bhoys boss wants another attacker and Larsson has the chops to be a member of this squad.

Analysis conducted by fan group The Cynic shows that the Swedish international is adept across the attacking line, particularly impressive as a link-up option and in creating chances for teammates.

If a player with this profile came to the attention of Celtic as a free transfer option and his name wasn’t Larsson – you could see the club being interested. All the extra stuff only makes it more of an exciting prospect.

Of course, there are plenty of considerations. We don’t know what wages he’d be after. We don’t know if he has a particular league in mind for his next move. Maybe Postecoglou just doesn’t fancy it.

Nonetheless this chatter, for me, at least has some logic behind it, even if plenty aren’t aware of it.

Previous moves for the player were thought to be impossible because of the fee it would take to sign him. But are the stars finally aligning here for an incredible reunion with the Larsson family?

I’m not against it. And Celtic shouldn’t be either.

In other news, Clock ticking for the frozen out Celtic players who weren’t at pre-season training.
