Why Marcelo Saracchi now looks destined to stay at Celtic

Boca Juniors may already have made Marcelo Saracchi’s Celtic future obvious, even if the clubs have not finalised a deal yet.

The Uruguayan’s season-long Celtic loan expires on June 30, and while talks over a permanent move have reportedly stalled, Boca’s current squad structure suggests a long-term return to Argentina makes little sense.

Celtic may never get a better chance to secure Saracchi permanently.

Boca’s situation is giving Celtic Saracchi leverage

Reports from Argentinian outlet Bolavip claim Boca are keen to move Saracchi on partly because of their foreign player situation.

With several non-Argentine players already occupying places in the squad, freeing another slot would clearly help them in the next transfer window.

That leaves Celtic in a strong position despite the report saying talks between both clubs have stalled. The Scottish champions are not taking a gamble on an unknown player.

Saracchi has already settled well into Celtic, contributed to a successful campaign and shown he can provide dependable depth across a long season.

The fact Boca already have established options on the left side only strengthens the argument that a permanent departure suits everybody involved.

Everything points towards a permanent Celtic stay for Saracchi

The lack of progress in negotiations should not distract from the bigger picture. Boca reportedly want a sale, Saracchi’s pathway in Buenos Aires looks blocked and Celtic already know exactly what they would be getting.

For a club preparing for another demanding domestic and European campaign, keeping reliable squad players matters.

Saracchi is very popular among the Celtic supporters and this increasingly looks like one of the simplest and most logical deals Celtic could complete.
