Jimmy Hay

Jimmy Hay was a defender for Celtic in the early 1990s, spending eight years at the club and making 287 appearances.

He moved direct from the Hoops to Newcastle in 1911, playing 217 games for the Magpies. A year into the First World War, he moved back to Scotland to play for Ayr United.

Ronnie Simpson

One of Celtic’s greatest ever goalkeepers, Ronnie Simpson is most famous for playing in the 1967 European Cup final victory over Inter Milan.

He won nine major trophies with the Bhoys between 1964 and 1970. Before his incredible spell at Celtic, he represented Newcastle across the majority of the 1950s.

Simpson lifted the FA Cup twice for the English side during his time there.

John McNamee

John McNamee played for Celtic just before the Jock Stein era at the club. The defender made 44 appearances and later turned out for Newcastle between 1966 and 1971.

With the Magpies, McNamee won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969.

Aitken won 12 major domestic trophies at the club before making a £500k switch to Newcastle in January 1990.

Mark McGhee

Mark McGhee endured a slow start to his four years at Celtic, but certainly blossomed towards the end. He finished the club’s top scorer during the 1988/89 campaign.

Sandwiched between his Celtic stint was two spells at Newcastle, his second stint much more successful than the first. He forged a good partnership with Micky Quinn at the club.

Andy Walker

Andy Walker was the first player to move between Celtic and Newcastle on loan. He did so in 1991 after four years with the Hoops.

He returned to Celtic permanently in 1994, scoring 12 goals in 56 appearances.

Darren Jackson

Wim Jansen made Darren Jackson his first signing as Celtic manager in 1997, but the striker failed to make a considerable impact at Parkhead.

11 years prior to his Celtic switch, Jackson played for Newcastle. The former Scotland international netted nine times in 83 games for the Magpies.

Mark Viduka

Mark Viduka was a goal machine for Celtic but unfortunately only spent a year-and-a-half in Glasgow after a £3.5m move from Dinamo Zagreb.

The Aussie striker scored 35 goals in 48 appearances, before two brilliant spells with Leeds United and then Middlesbrough. He finished his professional career at Newcastle.
