Celtic have been linked with making a move for Tyrese Campbell and have already been told what they could expect from the forward.

Chris Wilder played talk of Campbell joining Celtic or Rangers from Sheffield United as his striker works his way back from injury.

Tomas Cvancara’s disappointing display against Dundee increased the need for the Hoops to find a proven goalscorer in the summer and two of his former managers from his time at Stoke City have given very different views.

The 2026 transfer window is still months away, but what is the number one position Celtic need to improve this summer?📝

Alex Neil said Tyrese Campbell is a ‘Premier League finisher’

The Bhoys were previously interested in Campbell back in 2020 but opted against making a move for him.

Stoke City was where he enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career, and in 2022, manager Alex Neil claimed that he was an elite-level finisher.

He told Stoke Sentinel: “I’ve spoken about fitness levels to him significantly because Tyrese Campbell has got Premier League athleticism, he’s rapid, he’s strong, he’s powerful; he’s got Premier League level finishing, certainly on his left foot, he’s an incredible finisher.

“When you combine those two traits, it’s my job to make sure I set a structure up enough to utilise those qualities but be part of the team and do work for the team as well as showing us what he can do.”

Steven Schumacher didn’t rate Tyrese Campbell

While Neil proved to be a big fan of Campbell, the same couldn’t be said for Steven Schumacher.

The man who is currently managing Johnny Kenny at Bolton Wanderers chose to release him in the summer of 2024 after claiming that he didn’t hit the heights of what was expected of him.

“Tyrese has been here for a long time and has shown in glimpses over the years the potential that he’s got but probably hasn’t hit the heights of what his potential could be,” the former Potters boss admitted.

“For us, it was probably the idea to go and have a fresh start but also for Tyrese because you know he needs to go somewhere where he can play every week, play in a system that suits him every week and have a fresh start where he can maybe fulfil some of that potential that he’s shown. So yeah, it was a tough decision but it was done with the best intentions for all parties. Hopefully it works out for everybody.”
