Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has responded to the recent rumours linking Tyrese Campbell with a move to Celtic.
Reports have claimed that the Hoops have sent scouts to watch Campbell, who is out of contract in 2027, ahead of making a potential move in the summer.
Celtic have been linked with Campbell in the past and ahead of the return of domestic football this weekend, Blades boss Wilder was asked about the forward’s future but remained coy on the chances of him staying at Bramall Lane.
The 2026 transfer window is still months away, but what is the number one position Celtic need to improve this summer?📝

Chris Wilder on Celtic’s interest in Tyrese Campbell
Speaking ahead of his side’s Championship fixture against Norwich City, Wilder said that the priority is to bring the 26-year-old back up to fitness as he is out with injury until the end of the season.
He said: “He’s under contract. Those discussions that will be going on, and if he’s with us, then I will be demanding. I won’t be asking. There’ll be no shortcuts for anybody.

“But getting Ty back up to the levels in the season that he had last season will be key. And if I do and we do, then we’ve got a really good player on our hands. But the future will take care of itself.”
Tyrese Campbell’s goal record proves he isn’t what Celtic need
Whether it’s Campbell or not, Celtic know that they need to sign a striker this summer.
Names like Armando Gonzalez and Kasper Hogh have been mentioned for several months now, and all would be better options than Campbell.
The Bhoys need players who have experience of playing at the highest level. Hogh, for example, has been on fire in the Champions League this season whereas the Sheffield United striker has been patchy at best.
| Goals scored | Tyrese Campbell | Armando Gonzalez | Kasper Hogh |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025/26 season | 6 | 22 | 27* |
| All time | 97 | 60 | 118 |
Gonzalez and Hogh have both outscored Campbell this season, while their all-time records are arguably more impressive than the 26-year-old.
Yes, Campbell may be cheaper, but Celtic have money to burn and now it is about bringing in quality as opposed to fleshing out the squad.
*Hogh’s stats are from the most recent Norwegian season due to a different calendar
